For Henry, a certain emotional vulnerability has always been inseparable from his art. In fact, he began playing guitar on the advice of his mother, a psychotherapist who encouraged her three children to find an outlet to channel their emotions. At age of 12, he spent every recess in the school music room giving himself piano lessons or writing song sketches. Meanwhile, he built a fan base at home on YouTube and Instagram by covering songs by his musical idols, including Taylor Swift, Sam Smith and Ed Sheeran - and later earning their approval. Released in July 2022, the soulful bedroom-pop of "you were there for me" instantly made the Guildford-born artist a towering Talent, with his bluntly emotional songwriting appealing to listeners around the world. Just a few months later, the song has more than 40 million streams on Spotify. Any fears that "you were there for me" would be an impossible number are soon dispelled by "drunk text." The sweeping second single, which Henry wrote with Josh McClelland (SEVENTEEN, Cheat Codes) in the summer of 2022, underpins feelings of longing with a waltz melody so timeless that it's sure to resonate even more than its predecessor. After the whirlwind of the past few months, Henry is now focused and ready to build on his past success. After all, the world belongs to him.
