In the annals of 21st century alternative rock history, there are few artists who cast a longer shadow than Finnish love metal pioneer Ville Valo. After all, his band HIM was one of the most iconic and idiosyncratic groups of the millennium. Their music was revered and left an indelible impression on a legion of of fans around the world. The scarlet letters stood for His Infernal Majesty. By the time of their breakup in 2017, HIM had sold over 10 million albums. Already since 2005, Ville Valo had been increasingly involved with solo projects. The success of his album Neon Noir, released in 2022 under the banner VV , culminated in a tour in spring 2023 that sold out in record time. Now the beginning of the end of the era VV is heralded.
