‍49th&Main - two guys from Kilkenny, Ireland, who mix indie pop with a good dose of experimentation. Producer Ben O'Sullivan and singer/multi-instrumentalist Paddy King were actually just planning to spend the summer of 2019 in Canada with a couple of friends - they packed a few recording devices to be on the safe side. What began as a spontaneous adventure ended up being the foundation stone for their first music project. Once they arrived in Vancouver (near 49th & Main Street), O'Sullivan couldn't find work. While King and his friends worked in stores and construction sites all over the City , he spent his days producing and writing music, then in the evenings they would sit down and continue to hone their ideas. "We were just having fun, we weren't thinking about releasing them," laughs Paddy, " but then suddenly we had two songs that we really liked and decided we wanted people to hear them'.

During his time in Canada, O'Sullivan contracted aplastic anemia, a rare blood disorder that made him extremely tired and more susceptible to infections. Back in Ireland, months of examinations followed and the uncertainty of what would happen next. But it was precisely this uncertainty that led him to finally release music. "I didn't know what was going to happen and I'd always wanted to release music, so I thought, 'Why not'," he explains. "If I hadn't gotten sick, we probably would have waited and not released the songs, and who knows where we would be now. The music was a big help," he adds, "I don't know what I would have done without the music."

Three months after starting his treatment, 49th & Main released their first single: "Party Alone", a trap-inspired track with former classmate TraviS. This was followed shortly afterwards by their debut project "Neon Palm Trees", a genre mix without boundaries. And with "Catching Eyes" in April 2020, things really went through the roof: the electro-pop banger collected over 10 million streams on Spotify and catapulted the two of them into completely new spheres. Since then, 49th & Main have been on the road to success and have released collaborations with artists such as Sarah Carton, Khakikid, Landis and Chameleon. "It's surreal, it hasn't really sunk in yet that this is a career," the pair laugh about the recent announcements, "but it's really exciting. It's really cool and we can't wait to get started."
