The point of an odyssey is to return home changed - still the same person, but somehow deepened, wiser and better, proudly bearing the scars of his journey. The new album "Say I Won't" of Bass Drum of Death is the end result of a journey that took singer and bandleader John Barrett around the world and back home from a small City in Mississippi. The music is still rousing, with broken guitars and drums that sound like exploding bombs, and the melodies are catchier than ever, roared in Barrett's trademark style. But the music hits differently now, more at peace with itself, driven of a new momentum. "Say I Won't" is the album of an experienced band finding their own way and going for it, stripping back the excess and finding the raw core of their sound.
